OUR SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT

At WonderTree Skin, we are committed to doing our part to make the world a safer and more comfortable place for all, and for future generations. Our packaging utilizes recyclable plastics and other sustainable materials as much as possible. We use both PCR (post-consumer resin), an environment-friendly packaging option that is made from recycled plastics, and aluminum. 

The importance of sustainable packaging cannot be overstated. As the personal care and beauty industry works hard to evolve to more sustainable packaging, it comes with higher costs, limited availability of materials, the need for specialized manufacturing processes, and ensuring the packaging protects the product effectively. This is especially challenging for a small, minority owned business like ours. It doesn’t matter. We must all do our part. 

The personal care and beauty industry produces more than 120 billion units of packaging every year globally—most of which are not truly recyclable. That includes plastic, paper, glass, and metals, all of which end up in landfills year after year. Landfills are dangerous to the environment and human health. Landfill sites are often responsible for contamination of soil and groundwater, and the creation of landfills typically means destroying natural habitats for wildlife. The biggest concern regarding landfills is their release of methane gas, which is is a potent greenhouse gas released due to the decomposing waste, and is a huge contributor to global climate change. According to the EPA, “the most severe harms from climate change fall disproportionately upon underserved communities who are least able to prepare for, and recover from, heat waves, poor air quality, flooding, and other impacts”. In particular, Black and African American individuals are projected to face higher impacts of climate change for all areas of impact the EPA analyzed. As a Company committed to empowering Black women to live and enjoy longer, healthier, more BEAUTY-full lives, we have a responsibility to actively participate in the green economy.
